The Hidden Truth About RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) AuDHDer Speaks Out

As an autistic person with ADHD, this is me trying to explain what rejection sensitive dysphoria feels like while I’m actually experiencing it.

RSD is an intense emotional reaction to the possibility of rejection, criticism, or feeling misunderstood. It’s not just feeling upset. It can feel immediate, physical, and overwhelming, even if nothing major has actually happened on the outside.

Sometimes it shows up as overthinking something small someone said. Sometimes it feels like your brain suddenly decides you’ve done something wrong or disappointed someone. And sometimes it becomes very hard to regulate emotions in that moment.

For many people with ADHD and AuDHD, this happens quickly and deeply, and it isn’t something we can just switch off.

If you’ve ever felt a strong emotional reaction to rejection and didn’t know why, you’re not alone.
