The Power of Reputation and God's Radical Social Vision in Ruth 2

In this week's episode of Life in the Word we're looking at Ruth chapter 2. In this chapter we find God's radical social vision taking care of the poor, and we also see the power of reputation. A few things that we cover in this video are the background of reaping in Ruth, specifically looking at the Old Testament vision of taking care of the poor. Additionally we cover the background of Levirate marriage and how that works in Ruth 2. Then, I give you two key takeaways from this chapter, specifically God's care for the poor and the power of reputation. Just as God cares for the poor, Christians too are called to be mindful of the poor and bless them out of the blessings we've received. When it comes to reputation, we look at how our reputation arises out of our private lives. What we do in private determines who we become in public. Our private faithfulness often results in public blessing, just as it does here in Ruth. With all of this, we see that Ruth 2 is a jam-packed chapter filled with practical insights for your life and interesting background into the Old Testament social vision.
