Elon Musk Delaying Battery Day Shows Tesla Is in Catch 22

Elon Musk again delays Tesla Battery Today probably combining with Shareholder Meeting. Let's see what this means for Tesla.

ElonMusk announced on Twitter today that Tesla’s annual investor meeting will be delayed due to restrictions for holding events: “We will have to postpone the annual shareholder meeting, as there's still no large gatherings allowed by July 7th. Not sure of the new date, but I am guessing maybe a month or so later.”

The CEO then commented on the Battery Day – saying that they might combine it with the shareholder’s meeting. “Probably good to combine them, since they are converging in time.” He also confirmed that it won’t happen this month as previously planned and that the date will “hopefully” be announced after the July 4th week:“I’m hopeful we can announce a date after the July 4th week.”

Do you think it’s a good idea to combine the Battery Day withTesla Shareholder meeting? On one hand, it seems that the battery talk and questions are going to be the most frequently discussed topics during the shareholder Meeting, thus you can’t avoid them. But on the other hand, I hope not. I feel like it will dumb down the battery talk for a broader audience and take time away from it. And there are a bunch of other topics to talk about that would be suitable for shareholders meeting but not battery day. Thus, Isaw some comments on discussion boards asking please don’t converge them Elon. What do you think?

So, the announcement says no large gatherings are allowed until July 7th. Can’t Tesla do a safe nice Powerpoint presentation and stream the Battery Day online or make a Zoom call?

Another Tesla owner and investor for Texassays “California isn't letting big crowds happen at all this year and probably not a lot of next year either. If Tesla wants a Battery Day in person, they'd better do it in Texas. We just heard that schools are going back to in-person the fall. So, you can bet that Texas will stay open.”

Here is another comment I saw and read in discussion boards that makes a really good sense. What do you think of this? “Tesla is in a catch22 situation. If they announce now how much better and cheaper the cars will be soon who would still buy one now when the numbers are so important? They simply can't have their battery day before the technology is actually implemented in the car and ready to order immediately.”

In the meantime, CATL already has a great battery, has announced it, ready to sell it to carmakers, including Teslacompetitors and we are going to wait to see what Tesla reveals or has to say about its own million-mile batteries on the Battery Day or at the ShareholderMeeting.
