Everybody wants to have ripped abs..but do you know what you have to do to get them? I am going to go through some great tips to answer the question, is it really possible to get ripped abs after 50? Are abs made in the kitchen? Yes, but that is not all of it..you need to build your abs first, and that starts in the gym. To build more strength it really starts with the core. I am going to give you some great exercises to do to build your core strength, which will be the start to getting ripped abs after 50. In all of these exercises, you want to aim for 3 sets of 12 reps. Let’s get started with some exercises in this video on how to get ripped abs after 50.

Exercise #1: SEATED LEG LIFT CRUNCH. Place your hands under your butt. When you pull your knees in, you also want to have a C shape in your back as you are crunching forward. If you want to make the exercise a little more difficult, put a dumbbell or weighted medicine ball to add more resistance.
Exercise #2: BACK EXTENSION/SUPERMAN. You can do this exercise with a bench, but if that is too difficult you can just do it on the ground. Hold for a count at the top of the movement, to really work your abs.
Exercise #3: DUMBBELL SIDE BENDS. Use one dumbbell to your side at a time. Simply lean to the side, pivoting at the hips, and you are basically doing a standing crunch to the side to work your obliques. When you go back up, really focus on getting the full stretch then crunch again. You are going to do 12 reps on each side for this exercise.
Exercise #4: SIT-UP. You can do this on the bench, or on the ground. Start with a good stretch, and crunch as far as you can do. Really hold the contraction then extend back out. If you want, you can do this with a variation, and add a twist rotation during the contraction. If you want to add more resistance you can also use a dumbbell, which will add more work to your abs during the contraction.

These are some great exercises that you can do to work your core and help your journey to get ripped abs after 50. If you are serious about this, I recommend really incorporating a core regimen into your workouts. You need to work your core at least 3 times a week to help you work to get ripped abs. That way, when you start to shed your body fat, you are going to have something impressive to show.

Now that you have built up your core and established symmetry, it is time to get shredded. To get shredded abs that show, you will need to get into single digit body fat. You need to reduce your caloric intake by 3500 calories a week, or 500 calories a day. This on average will help you lose 1 pound of body fat a week.

Another huge key to burning fat, is doing H.I.I.T. Cardio. This will raise your heart rate for a very short burst of time. I recommend starting with a 15 second intense sprint then rest for 60 seconds. Repeat that 10 times in your cardio workouts. You can do jump ropes, bike, or sprinting. It just needs to be short bursts of an intense sprint in an exercise.
