*Note that this astrological portrait of your conscience (The Sun) and your unconscious “reactive” nature or instinctive self (The Moon) presented here may not fully represent your character because the other factors in astrology must necessarily combine to create the soul-essence of what you truly are. The true self is a holotropic whole subsumed at once by all of its cosmic parts. You must have a sense of every layer and part to get at the essence. All the planets in the signs together help to reveal your hidden strengths and talents._________________________________

Two of the significant authors presented in these discourses are Stephen Arroyo and Isabel Hickey. These two have rather different ways of relating their astrological matter, and they have different layers of the astral message to relate to us. ISABEL HICKEY’s most popular book, Astrology: A Cosmic Science, was one of the first accessible textbooks in general use in the late Sixties and early Seventies to break away from fatalism and to take a spiritual approach. A recent edition of the book is available at major chains. In my opinion, her interpretations are more astro-theological, and are pointedly aimed at interpreting the cosmological and planetary aspects into a palpable sense of the occult mysteries hidden beneath them. STEPHEN ARROYO's eight books have made him one of the best-selling authors of modern astrology books worldwide. Arroyo's work spans the spectrum of modern, psychologically oriented astrology, supported by his many years of one-to-one counseling work (he holds a California Marriage, Family & Child Counseling license), and body- and energy-centered therapies. Arroyo’s work comes from a more pragmatic, psychologically useful and practical standpoint, and his interpretations of aspects are usually grounded in a more easily relatable language. ___________________________________________

CUSPS: Apologies in advance to people born on Sun or Moon sign cusps (people usually born around the 20th-22nd of any given month for Sun signs). I’ve found that Sun sign cusps usually lean more toward one Sun sign or the other, but it can often be hard to tell which side it leans on. Some suggest that there is no exact line or degree in which a sudden change in astrological context occurs from one sign to the next when a planet is transiting them, but rather that the signs progress from one to another almost like the seasons change, with a slow, gradual, mercurial transformation. My thinking is simply that the Sun or Moon attributes would come out more strongly on either side of a cusp if either of their astrological values are shared by any of the other planets in the signs. Example: If I have the Moon on the 29th degree of Leo (the cusp of Leo and Virgo), and I also have say Venus trine the Moon on the 2nd degree of Capricorn (meaning on the early side of Capricorn), I might come out more in my feminine lunar nature as a Virgo, because it is magnetized to the feminine earthy planet Venus in a close aspect. Yet maybe if the rest of my chart was one which depicted a very strong emphasis of fire signs, the Leo Moon Nature might come out more than the Virgo. In either case, whether you’re learning to the right or the left, you’ll still probably emit characteristics of the neighboring sign to a relatively small degree. It’s a subtle thing to define. If you arm yourself with the astral knowledge however, you can attain your needed understanding and gnosis of your cusp Sun or Moon nature through real lived experience and observation, and by trusting your feelings and intuition. The planets do progress through the signs in the slow gradual process described earlier, but the Sun and Moon on the cusp may still lean one way or the other, or else they may be on the true cusp and have two signs informing their being. In this case, I suppose I can only suggest listening to the audio recordings of both neighboring signs :)

“Know thyself.” - Socrates
Bliss starts with understanding oneself. How else can one know the limiting factors about themselves which they might be able to improve on, and what stagnant attributes they ought to transform into blissful active living? Once one begins to understand their karma (past action; immature, unconscious manifestation of self), one can start to transform the present unfoldment of their lives through more consciously informed actions.
