Hanging leg raises are one of the best core exercises for beginners and experts alike in calisthenics. No matter how advanced you are, you can always work to improve the movement..
However, I see people failing to achieve hanging leg raises simply because they're obsessed with perfect form. And that shouldn't be the case.
In this video I explain how to go from complete beginner (hanging knee raises) to full hanging leg raises in the same logical step-by-step progression I used to attain this movement.
Sure, doing a hanging leg raise while maintaining a perfectly straight back and bringing your thighs to your chest would be ideal form - I won''t argue with that - but there's no harm in leaning back when doing this exercise until you've built up gymnast-level flexibility. They're still a great core exercise either way.
