I should have died on the battlefield.
For veterans survivors guilt comes in many different forms. We often feel that our true purpose was to die in war, and that we have been cheated out of that true purpose by fate, the universe, God, or son other power that wishes to punish us for the rest of our lives. You can be incredibly hard to reconcile the fact that you are returning home when someone else is not.
Scenarios get worse when servicemembers leave behind wives and children, wiggling and orphaning yet another generation. Veterans in law-enforcement officers feel an obligation to those they serve with to never leave them behind. This also means having their six through an emotional connection, which can be challenging when we are working to live a life numb and detached from pain.
Veterans Mental health can most certainly suffer as a result of this injury, and it leaves us hating and loathing ourselves for years.
