1-Bit AVR Synthesizer ("The Nastysynth")
SCHEMATICS AND CODE: http://www.msarnoff.org/1bitsynth/
Weird-looking synthesizer/noisebox I made in a couple days. Audio is coming directly out of an ATmega168, all generated in software. No DACs or external circuitry is used.
Features:
- Seven 1-bit waveforms (including four from the Atari 2600) plus a noise generator
- Frequency-modulating LFO with seven waveforms (triangle, sawtooth up/down, square, rectangle, half sawtooth up/down) and noise
- 1-bit "envelope" generator (variable frequency and duty cycle)
- Stereo phase shifter (un-synchronizes the phase of the left and right signals, subtle but interesting)
You get the coolest effects when you set the LFO and envelope frequencies very close to each other; then it's almost like a drum machine or sequencer.
