The MAD GASSER OF MATTOON | cold case or urban myth?

At the end of summer in 1944, the town of Mattoon, Illinois, entered a state of panic: people were being gassed as they slept in their own homes. The mad gasser's attacks would continue for over two weeks with no suspects being identified or any arrests being made. The police dismissed it as a case of mass hysteria, but the neighbors insisted the attacks were real. To this day, the case of the Mad Gasser of Mattoon is considered unsolved, but is this a cold case or an urban myth?
