Argentina is a ‘lesson’ on what government should ‘not do’
New South Wales Libertarian Party MLC John Ruddick says Argentina is a “lesson” on what Australian state and federal governments should not do or they will "end up" like Argentina today.
Argentinian President-elect Javier Milei won the second round of elections after receiving over 55 per cent of the vote last month.
He is often compared to former US president Donald Trump and is known for notoriously bringing chainsaws to campaign rallies where he promised to cut state spending.
Mr Milei's election win means it is the second time the Peronist left-wing Justicialist Party will be out of power since 2001.
“Argentina is the lesson about what we don’t want to do, but we have been heading down this track of a much bigger state for a couple of decades,” Mr Ruddick told Sky News Australia.
“The Liberal Party has been running Australia for about 20 of the last 27 years … but the government keeps getting bigger.
“I’m saying look, let’s not do what Argentina has done in the past, or we’ll end up like Argentina today.”
