‘It’s always a challenge for the Liberals to secure a majority’: Tas Deputy Premier
Tasmanian Deputy Premier Michael Ferguson is “hoping for a strong result tonight” but says the state’s voting system makes it a “challenge” for the Liberal Party to secure a majority.
Tasmanians have gone to the polls today to vote for the next state government.
“We’re certainly still hoping for a strong result tonight,” Mr Ferguson told Sky News Australia.
“We have experienced in Tasmania, with our unique voting system … it’s a system which is proportional.
“It opens up the opportunity for a party or a candidate that can achieve a 12.5 per cent result to get a seat in parliament, and so for those reasons, it’s always a challenge for the Liberal Party to secure a majority.”
