A GIANT Shoal Bass… But Something Is Wrong (Sediment Warning) – EP.5

Right where it should be…there’s a fish.

And not just any fish—an absolute tank of a shoal bass. Thick, powerful, and likely full of eggs, this is exactly the kind of fish that tells you you’re in the right place at the right time.

I break down exactly where this fish was holding and why—tying it back to everything we’ve talked about so far in this series:
depth, current, and access to refuge.

When you see what this fish does after the release, it becomes clear just how perfectly adapted shoal bass are to life in current.

But there’s another story unfolding here…

Beyond the extremely low water, I’m seeing something even more concerning:

Heavy sedimentation throughout the creek
Muddy water despite no recent rain
Conditions that point to upstream disturbance

And that’s not good news for a species that depends on clean, rocky shoal habitat to reproduce.

So while this fish is a sign of hope…there are also warning signs that can’t be ignored.

That fish tells me they’re still here… but these conditions tell a different story. Next time, we’ll see which one wins.
