The Nerva-Peña del Hierro-Nerva Trail (Huelva).
This 11 km circular path runs through an old mining landscape that goes from Nerva (Huelva) to Peña del Hierro and back to Nerva. Peña del Hierro is an open mine measuring 330 m. in length and 85 m. deep. At its bottom is the source of the Tinto River, which is unusual for its colour, due to its high mineral content (iron sulphide pyrite and chalcopyrite, among others), and its variety of colours, of yellow and green, and tones, light and dark, depending on the place through which it passes, and the depth and quantity of water. It is very acidic, due to its dissolved minerals, which is why it does not play host to fish or encourage foliage on its shores. From its source, the Tinto River runs 100 km south through the province of Huelva to meet the Odiel River, which jointly discharge into the Atlantic Ocean, in the "Gulf of Cádiz".
