Step into the calming flow of Alternate Nostril Breathing, a practice taught to me in my childhood at the ashram by my dad. This simple yet profound technique balances your energy, harmonizes the brain's hemispheres, and purifies the nervous system 😌
Just a few minutes of this breath-work can shift your mind and body into a state of peace, helping you dissolve stress and prepare for meditation. 🧘♀️
👉🏼 Start by finding a comfortable position (sitting with your spine upright) and take a few grounding breaths.
👉🏼 Put your right hand into Vishnu Mudra (index and middle finger bent away, see video for demonstration)
👉🏼 Using the right thumb, block the right nostril - inhale through the left nostril for the count of 4. Block both nostrils and hold for the count of 4. Keep the left nostril blocked and release the right nostril. Exhale through the right nostril for the count of 4.
👉🏼 Now, inhale through the right nostril and release the left nostril. Hold your breath for 4. Then exhale for the count of 4.
Repeat this process and aim for 3 minutes to start and work your way up to a 10-minute practice. As you practice, you can increase your count (for example, inhale 4, hold 8, exhale 12).
