Giving directions in Russian. Prepositions: Opposite, Between, In front of, Behind, Next to , Near , Along, Over , Through , Towards

And It’s quite difficult to explain how to get somewhere without using prepositions and other parts of speech.
In this lesson, I will tell you the most common prepositions.

Let’s do this

then затем / потом
Go straight then turn left
Идите прямо затем поверните налево

Go straight then turn left
Идите прямо потом поверните налево
When you want to explain where the place is, you may use next prepositions
Where? Where is the museum? Где? Где находится музей?
opposite напротив
The museum is opposite the theatre -Музей находится напротив театра/
Музей напротив театра

between между
Go between houses and you will find the cafe
Идите между домами, и вы найдете кафе

in front of перед
The park is in front of the hotel Парк находится перед отелем / Парк перед отелем

behind за (позади)
The park is behind the hotel Парк находится за отелем
Парк находится позади отеля
next to рядом с
The park is next to the hotel Парк находится рядом с отелем

near рядом с / недалеко от
There are a lot of shops near the hotel Рядом с отелем много магазинов
Недалеко от отеля много магазинов
When you want to explain how to get to the place, you may use next prepositions

Where (to)? Куда?

along вдоль
Go along the river Идите вдоль реки

over по
Go over the bridge Идите по мосту

through через
Go through the park Идите через парк

towards к / по направлению к
Go towards the church Идите к церкви / Идите по направлению к церкви

CONVERSATION #1

Excuse me, where is the nearest metro?
Извините, где находится ближайшее метро?
Go along the street and when you see the museum, turn left.
Идите вдоль улицы и, когда вы увидите музей, поверните налево.

There is a big restaurant next to museum.
Рядом с музеем находится большой ресторан.

The metro is behind this restaurant.
Метро позади ресторана.

Go left and then go over the bridge.

After you pass a shopping mall, Red Square will be on your left,
