Voices From the Civil Rights Movement: Dr. Raphael Cassimere Jr.

To celebrate Black History Month, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is pleased to continue our series of one-on-one conversations with 1960s civil rights activists. This final installment features Dr. Raphael Cassimere Jr. Professor emeritus of history and the first African American instructor hired at the University of New Orleans, Cassimere served as president of the New Orleans NAACP Youth Council from 1960 to 1966. During that time, he led voter registration drives as well as a successful two-year boycott of thirty-five local businesses. This interview was recorded via Zoom on May 14, 2021. This interview may contain harsh language and descriptions of violence and may experience occasional technical difficulties.
