Are You Using Knock-Off Contactors? Find Out Why the Originals are Safer and More Cost-Effective! 💸
While knock-off contactors may cost a little less than GE contactors up front, they will cost you more in the long run. Due to inferior manufacturing methods and materials, knock-offs only last 250-500K cycles, while GE originals pack a whopping 3 million+ cycles. Learn more about what sets FSIP's manufactured, UL-certified GE contactors apart from knock-off alternatives.

Are you using knock-off contactors? While they typically cost a little less than original GE contactors, knock-offs may just end up costing you more in the long run, and here's why. Knock-off contactors have a shorter lifespan due to inferior manufacturing methods and materials. Contesting knock-off contactors fail between 250 to 500 thousand cycles. GE originals will last more than 3 million cycles.
Knock-offs are also a safety hazard. These imposter contactors are sealed, meaning they can lead to premature failure caused by the electrical arc's inability to escape the tip enclosure. Also, the glossy housing is not fire retardant and could possibly melt, and even catch fire! You will notice they lack the UL safety certification label. GE original contactors have been manufactured by FSIP since 2010. They are built into a safe, fire retardant housing. The open frame of GE original contactors will not interfere with the electrical arc the way the knock-offs do. Also, you can easily spot the FSIP label with UL certification, so you know you are getting the quality and safety of a GE original contactor.
Even the tips of the knock-off contactors don't compare to the original. GE tips are solid 90/10 or 85/15 silver cadmium compositions. Knock-off tips are 90/10 silver cadmium plating on a copper slug. Here, you can see a cross section of the knock-off tip attached to the bus bar. It is a copper slug coated with a layer of silver cadmium. Solder voids between the copper slug and bus bar decrease conductivity and increase temperature when operating. When examining the tips of your contactor, look for the FSIP mark to make sure you are working with our quality GE original. Call FSIP today for a quote: 1-800-333-1194.
