Search expands for runaway zebra after interstate escape near North Bend

Search efforts are intensifying for a runaway zebra in North Bend after three others were captured over the weekend. It's one of four zebras that got loose on I-90 near exit 32 while being transported to Montana.

According to the investigation report, the zebras' owner told King County Sheriff's Office deputies she was hauling the zebras from Winlock, Wash., to Anaconda, Mont., when a stop on the interstate turned to chaos.

She said she stopped by I-90 near the North Bend exit to better secure the trailer. As she fixed it, the zebras made their escape and brought interstate traffic to a halt. Confused drivers pulled over to the shoulder.

After a few hours, the zebras' owner, law enforcement, and some locals corralled the zebras. But one adult stallion jumped the fence of a horse stable and ran into the woods where the hiking and biking trails are at Boxley Creek, the report states.
