Lucky dog saved from landslide in Seattle

In a bit of good news for the family whose home was virtually destroyed during a landslide last week in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood, one of two of the family's pet dogs was found safe Thursday, authorities said.

A portion of US 2 over Stevens Pass reopened Thursday after being closed for an entire week due to heavy snowfall. The highway's reopening is welcome news for the town of Leavenworth, whose residents are still digging out from the winter blast last week that dumped several feet of snow onto the town. The heavy snowfall prompted the city's mayor to declare a state of emergency.
