Melody Ehsani, when faced in her early 30’s with the edict of her Persian culture -- seduce a man and get married or you are “spoiled” for life -- said no to these expectations and took the lone and often scary path of staying true to herself. In trusting her deep inner knowing, Melody, despite anxiety, chose love over fear when she dropped out of law school (the career she was told would make her worthy of a man), pursued her calling as a designer and took the courageous path of finding what makes her happy as an independent person without a partner. This commitment to finding contentment and fulfillment alone, which included following the pulse of everything she loved to do and was genuinely attracted to (like taking piano lessons and going to concerts and basketball games alone), ultimately magnetized her the career of her dreams and an expansive partner at 39 that now continues to inspire her to become even more whole in herself.
“There's a term in Farsi for girls that aren't married before a certain age, and it literally means you've spoiled. I was the first woman in my family to break this cycle... I'm never going to force myself to do something that makes me uncomfortable or that I don't like or have a good feeling about because I should be putting myself out there. So instead I just started doing all the things that I loved…I think we undermine love so much. We also don't trust it because it's hurt so many of us so many times, but, I think that if you can trust what you love, you will never, ever go wrong.”
