Shashi: Alexa helps his family feel closer - with audio description │Alexa Stories

Shashi moved to the U.S. from India over two decades ago, and uses the Alexa Drop In feature to connect with his parents each day. He finds it helps them stay connected, as if they are sitting in the same living room together, even though they are thousands of miles apart.

This video portrays a man, Shashi, walking to the front door of his house.

Soft piano music plays.

Words appear on the screen: “Shashi’s Story”.

He begins to wash dishes at his kitchen sink.

Shashi: “I'm Shashi. I’m a marketing professional. I moved to the US over two decades ago from India.”

He prepares tea for himself at his kitchen island, he brings a mug of tea to his dining room table to take a sip.

He drops in on his parents with an Amazon Echo Show, and converse together.

Shashi: “No matter whether people say it publicly or not, people are really attached to parents. One of the hardest things has been keeping in touch with family back in India 'till I discovered the ability for the Amazon Echo Show to be able to Drop In.”

Shashi: “And it helps us very much to keep in touch with my parents, and it helps them not feel very lonely. In fact, they say like they are more connected with me in the US than with people around there because we drop into each other every day, and you don't really have to pick up the phone.”

Shashi nods in reply to his parents during their Drop In call.

Shashi: “When you think about it is almost like you're opening the door to the living room and you’re right there. Having the ability to connect with them without actually being there I think it's a great advantage.”
