This video portrays a woman in a motorized wheelchair using her Amazon Alexa to control lights and set reminders to help in her daily routine.
Words appear on the screen: “Michele’s Story”
Lullaby-like piano music starts playing.
Michele: “Hi, my name is Michele, and I work in finance and also I've…”
She enters her apartment using her motorized wheelchair.
Michele: “Alexa, turn on the lights.”
The lights turn on. There are tall windows and indoor plants.
Michele picks up a watering can and waters her plants.
She works on her laptop at the dining table.
Michele: “...I have a boyfriend. His name is Daniel. We live in downtown Chicago. It's nice. Work can be stressful. Finance is sort of a fast paced world where things are moving quickly. And at the same time, everything needs to be done yesterday. I sometimes forget what day it is because there's so much stuff happening at work.”
She pauses her work.
Michele: “Alexa, remind me I have physical therapy this Wednesday at 3:00 PM.”
She resumes working on her laptop.
Michele: “So I had a car accident when I was younger and became paralyzed from the chest down. So for me, working in spreadsheets and Excel all day, it's tough sometimes.”
She moves to the kitchen and takes a look inside her fridge.
Michele uses her laptop’s touchpad with her wrist.
Michele: “It's nice to unwind and unplug and Alexa can help turn on the show. And she knows exactly where I left off, which is nice. Alexa, actually she's there and it's comforting to know that she's there for me, can help me stay independent.”
