Toyota Corolla E70 Drift. Is the KE70 good for drifting? (TE71, AE71, AE70, KE74, TE70, TE72...)
The Corolla E70 was the fourth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate. It was for sale between 1979 and 1987. This Corolla was offered in all body styles: two-door Sedan, four-door Sedan, two-door Hardtop Coupé, three-door Coupé, and three-door Liftback Coupé.The engines were not powerful in this Corolla, they all had 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engines with displacement from 1.3L to 1.8L but the weight of the car is low, so drifting is possible. Also engine swaps are popular for this model, like the legendary 4AGE.
All models had Rear-wheel drive configuration, very similar chassis to the AE86. This Toyota is lightweight, but it also has a short wheelbase and it has a solid rear axle. These traits mean that its handling at the limit is quite twitchy. The driver needs to have quick hands and a really good sense for weight transfer in order to drift it successfully.
Power is low, making it difficult to get sideways and harder to keep sideways in drift compared to more powerful cars, such as a Silvia.
These traits make the AE86 and E70 excellent first drift cars. This car communicates well with the driver and will punish you for your mistakes but means that you learn fast.
Most people who learn to drift in a Corolla don’t rely so heavily on the handbrake or the power to get them through a course. They can balance their car using weight transfer, commitment, and braking. They tend to have much more full throttle, low exit angle and high intensity driving styles.
As you learn to drive, you can learn to be a mechanic too as they have a simple mechanic-friendly design. Also light weight means lower wear on parts, including tires.
Also the E70 Corollas are much cheaper than the AE86. If you want similar handling for a fraction of the price, the E70 is a good alternative.
They are rare to see in competition these days as they have an old suspension design that does not generate much grip. But they are fun cars to drive and can be found on track days with smiling drivers behind the wheel. KE 70 カローラ ドリフト #Drift #Drifting #KE70 KE70 TE71 AE71 AE70 KE74 TE70 TE72
