Toyota JZX90 Drift. Mark 2, Chaser & Cresta good for drifting?
The Toyota X90 is a mid-size four-door sedan produced by Toyota in Japan between 1992 and 1996. It had a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. The chassis itself is shared by three different models: Chaser, Mark II and Cresta. Each model supposedly had different characteristics – the Chaser was geared towards sporty driving, the Cresta towards luxury, and the Mark II was the balance of performance and design. Actually, mechanically the 3 models were identical; the cars most differed in front and rear end design with different lights and bumpers.
This sedan was offered with several engines, the Tourer V was the sportier version that equipped a 280 hp turbocharged inline-6 engine (1JZ-GTE) from the factory. The JZ family engines have enviable reputation as engines capable of high horse power and solid reliability. The Tourer V had a 4-speed automatic transmission, a 5-speed manual as an option, and featured a limited-slip differential as standard.
Toyota was well ahead of the game when it came to performance sedans back in the day. The JZX90 was a nimble all-around performer. This chassis is very popular amongst enthusiasts and drifters due to their stiff chassis and power-to-weight ratio. The long wheelbase allows the car to be more predictable during transitions, although it may not look as aggressive as it would with a shorter wheelbase car. From factory the car may look like a boring executive sedan but with the right bodykit, wheels and ride hight it can look really cool. Aftermarket parts are abundant and you can customize the car to your liking as it is widely used for tuning, especially for drifting. All in all, it's obvious that this sedan has become a popular drift car with its performance-oriented chassis and excellent powertrain.
