Pelion, Pilio or Πήλιο in Greek (2024) is a beautiful region in Greece and circa 3 hour ride by car from Athens. It is better known as 'the Tuscany of Greece' with an impressive nature and beautiful medieval villages. The region of Pelion is located north of the city of Volos from which many excursion begin. With 1,624 meters Pourianos Stavros is the highest peak in the Pelion Peninsula. Mount Pelion is beautifully covered with forest trees. There are many traditional villages in Pelion, like Makrinitsa, Chania, Portaria and Damouchari. At Damouchari which is located at the sea the setting was used for the popular film 'Mamma Mia'.
