Beyond the Concert Hall: Stephen Waarts and Gabriele Carcano
The Vancouver Recital Society's Founder & Artistic Director, Leila Getz, speaks to violinist Stephen Waarts and pianist Gabriele Carcano. Stephen and Gabriele will perform at the Vancouver Playhouse on Sunday, March 27th, 2022. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here: https://vanrecital.com/concert/stephen-waarts/
Stephen Waarts is a young Dutch-American violinist whose innate and individual musical voice has established him as a firm favourite with audiences around the world. He began studying the violin at the age of 5, and now at the age of 26, his performances have taken him all around the world. With a voracious appetite for repertoire, he has already performed more than 30 standard violin concertos as well as rarely performed works, and he is a passionate chamber musician.
Gabriele Carcano, recipient of a 2010 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship Award, is a pianist equally at home in recital, as a soloist with orchestras and in chamber music. Praised by the Süddeutsche Zeitung as a "sculptor of sound" and "aesthete" after his Munich debut at the Herkulessaal, Gabriele is the winner of numerous awards, including the Casella Prize at the Competition Premio Venezia, where he made his debut at Teatro La Fenice.
Leila and Stephen talk about his experiences at the Kroberg Academy and Curtis Institute of Music, and Leila asks Gabriele about his recent experience performing at the Fidelio Cafe in London. Stephen and Gabriele also chat with Leila about the program for their upcoming concert.
