The Best Caramelized 🍌 (PINASUGBO)

You can never go wrong with caramelized bananas. 🍌 Pinasugbo or “Consilva” is a classic dessert that is a local favorite in Iloilo and in other parts of Western Visayas. 🌴 You’ll probably recognize it when you see the nostalgic white wrapper that’s a usual sight when you’re visiting the region.

While we would love to hop on the next flight or bus to find authentic ones, we decided to try making our own back home using ingredients that you already have in your kitchen! 🔥 Time to buy some saba asap!

PINASUGBO
Ingredients:
5 pcs saba banana
1 cup oil
¼ cup water
½ cup brown sugar
⅓ cup muscovado
⅓ cup glucose
1 tsp vanilla
¼ cup sesame seeds
bond paper
1 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in ¼ cup water
banana leaves

Procedure:
1. Slice each banana into five thin pieces. Fry them in oil until golden brown and place on a plate with paper towels.
2. In a pan, combine water, sugar, muscovado, glucose, and syrup in a pot. Bring to a boil until thicker in consistency. Toss in banana slices to coat and cool down on a rack. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and cool down.
3. Assemble by placing each in small cones made with bond paper sealed with cornstarch mixture. Makes 6 servings.
