NOT 'democratic' to have an election now says John Swinney

Even though the SNP mocked the Tories for their unelected leaders in number 10 and demanded an election, John Swinney doesn't believe that would be the right thing to do for Scotland right now.

Mr Swiney was asked: 'Now that you've been crowned the new leader of the SNP and likely to be the first Minister, don't you think an election is a democratic imperative to put that into context, that could put down a motion and ask for one and Labour would back you. Isn't that a democratic thing to do?'

Mr Swinney replied: 'No. We operate in a fixed term parliament.'
