Caravelli - Dance On

History of Sound Recording ♪♪♪ Period = 1960s
The next important development was 4-track recording. The advent of this improved system gave recording engineers and musicians vastly greater flexibility for recording and overdubbing, and 4-track was the studio standard for most of the later 1960s. Many of the most famous recordings by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were recorded on 4-track, and the engineers at London's Abbey Road Studios became particularly adept at a technique called "reduction mixes" in the UK and "bouncing down" in the United States, in which several tracks were recorded onto one 4-track machine and then mixed together and transferred (bounced down) to one track of a second 4-track machine. In this way, it was possible to record literally dozens of separate tracks and combine them into finished recordings of great complexity.

CARAVELLI
French arranger, composer and conductor who found inspiration for his stage name with the (then) new airplane model "Caravelle" adding "li" to the basic word in honour of his Italian father.
In 1959 with the help of the French jazz musician Ray Ventura, he obtained a contract to form his own orchestra oriented to popular music. He signed a contract with the French record label Versailles. His first album Dance Party was recorded. Under licenses these early recordings were released internationally (20th Century Records in USA, Ariel in Argentina, Fermata in Brasil and Discophon in Spain).
The Versailles label was acquired by Columbia Records in 1964. The wider distribution of their product led to gold records in France, Japan, Israel and South America. In Brazil his first released CBS album was titled Voyage Musical, in Argentina Merci Cherie.
In 1973 one of his own compositions was included in the Frank Sinatra album Old Blue Eyes is back: “Laisse moi le temps” / “Let me try again”, original French lyrics by Michel Jourdan, English lyrics by Paul Anka. This song was previously presented in competition at the "Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar", Chile, by singer Romuald representing France and obtaining the 2nd prize (a Chile song was the winner), although it was considered the best song by critics and people. Making a delayed justice, a few years ago, it was proclaimed the Best Song in the history of this Festival, in its 41st Anniversary, something unusual for a non 1st prize in any song contest.
In the middle 1980s in order to update his sound he used rhythm arrangements by his son Patrick Vasori using musicians like Gilles Gambus and Serge Planchon, who also played keyboards with the orchestra.

DANCE ON
"Dance On!" is an instrumental by the British guitar group, The Shadows. It went to number 1 in the UK Singles Chart and the Irish Singles Chart It was also recorded in a vocal version by British female soloist Kathy Kirby, whose version reached number 11 in the UK chart in September 1963. Petula Clark recorded the song in French ("Je me sens bien auprès de toi") and Italian ("Sto volentieri con te") which made the Top 5 of the French and Italian charts. She also recorded an English version for album release on the Canadian market.

MHO
An enjoyable strings version of the famous Shadows guitar hit, with Caravelli making his first steps on the international music scene (track and album "Caravellissimo!" recorded in 1963).
The Shadows hit perfectly lends itself for a strings arrangement - something that would be noticed by other bandleaders (eg Norrie Paramor) as well. Makes for a nice change to hear this one played (mainly) by a strings section vs the "traditional" guitar rendition. Enjoy.
