Max Greger and His Orchestra - Lay Love On You

Musical Events Timeline : 1950 = Mitch Miller signs as A&R man with Columbia Records. He produced the orchestral recordings of Percy Faith and Ray Conniff (late 1950s and early 1960s).

MAX GREGER
Max Greger is a German Big Band leader, jazz musician, saxophone player and conductor.
Aged 10, young Max got an accordeon from his grandfather and that was the start of a long and successful musical career.
A few years later, Greger went to study the clarinet and saxophone at the Munich 'Conservatorium'
As an 18 year old he had to join the army at the (near) end of the war in 1944-45 but once the war was finished, Greger joined the American forces bands that played in the officers bars.
He founded the "Max Greger Sextett" in 1948.
He then started to work for the "Bayerische Rundfunk" but still kept a close contact with the American bands that were performing in some cities.
It's in those clubs that Greger met famous people like Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald.
Then followed the first album recordings and tours around Germany and in 1959 Greger was invited to play live in the former Soviet Union - thus becoming the first Western band to play there in over 30 years.
From 1963 up to 1977, Greger worked for the German ZDF tv company and in 1970, he was the only European band to appear on the Osaka World exhibition.
During the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, Greger recorded numerous dance albums, mostly specially recorded for German (and other) ballroom dance organizations.
In recent years, Greger has been touring in Germany together with Paul Kuhn and Hugo Strasser, appearing under the name of "Swinglegenden" ("Legends of swing")
The repertoire consists mainly of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie pieces.

LAY LOVE ON YOU
Is a 1978 song recorded by Spanish singer Luisa Fernandez. It did very well in the German, Belgian and Dutch hitparades.
MHO
A fantastic arrangement of this 1978 disco song that is being "transformed" by Max Greger and His Band into a swinging and tropical samba !
