The Code Approved Fix for Sunken Outlets

An outlet that isn't flush with the faceplate is not only unattractive, it usually indicates a safety hazard and code violation. During renovations, many people try to prop up the outlet with tiles or spacers, but those don't remove the fire danger or pass code. We'll show you how to install an approved junction box extender in this video.

According to NEC 314.20, an extender should be used whenever the gap between the front of the box and the faceplate is more than 1/4 inch.
