Protection From Electrical Fires with AFCI Breakers

We’ll walk through how arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCI) work, where they are needed, and why they can make your house a safer place. The 2020 NEC (National Electrical Code) updated section 210.12 from the 2017 version to significantly increase the requirements for AFCI protection. Fortunately the technology has gotten much better over the years, so nuisance tripping is much less of a concern. Installation is relatively easy, and AFCI breakers or outlets can help reduce the risk of electrical fire in your home and protect your loved ones.

In 2020, about 25,000 residential electrical fires occur across the United States causing over $1 billion in property damage and 200 deaths.
