POST FIGHT | Artur Beterbiev vs Anthony Yarde: "8 Round Classic"

#arturbeterbiev #anthonyyarde #beterbievyarde #undisputed #bivol

With a dominant and exciting performance, Artur Beterbiev successfully defended his WBO, WBC, and IBF light heavyweight titles against the challenging Anthony Yarde. Both combatants gave us thrilling exchanges. Beterbiev exhibited his usual resolute chin, a jab that was both controlled and powerful, and a right hand that sounded like a cannon. Extreme bravery and a few well-placed right hands from Yarde helped him win the round.

Finally, in the eighth round, Beterbiev's relentless pressure told, and he finished the fight with a pair of vicious right hands to Yarde's face. Beterbiev won on two of the three cards from the ringside judges, 68-65, 67-66, and 67-66, making for an intriguing result. Below are a few key takeaways from the bout that show how Beterbiev maintains his dominance in the 175-pound weight class.

Beterbiev is arguably the best light heavyweight fighter thanks to his dominating knockout victories over the highly talented and skilled Anthony Yarde, Joe Smith, and Marcus Browne. Dmitry Bivol, the current WBA light heavyweight champion, is arguably the best fighter in the division. Bivol's record includes notable wins over heavyweights like Canelo Alvarez, Zurdo Ramirez, and Joe Smith.

Beterbiev has a more impressive record and is just as impressive in defeating his opponents. A title unification bout between Beterbiev and Bivol is the only fair way to determine the best light heavyweight.

Artur Beterbiev knocked out Anthony Yarde with a TKO after the latter landed only 38% of his power punches despite putting up a valiant effort.

English capital of London - Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) had a tough fight on his hands when he stopped Anthony Yarde (23-3, 22 KOs) in the eighth round to win the WBC, WBO, and IBF world light heavyweight titles.

After eight rounds of intense action in which both boxers landed their fair share of blows, Yarde was knocked out. Although Yarde survived the count, his corner still decided to end the bout.

Beterbiev Exhibited Some Signs of Weakness Beterbiev's face was badly bloodied and he had a nasty cut just above his eyelid by the time the fight was over.

Beterbiev's previous bout with Marcus Browne was marred by a dangerous cut, which Browne used to his advantage. Is Beterbiev finally starting to feel the effects of old age? Perhaps…

However, both Yarde and Browne are formidable competitors who can compete with anyone in the 175-pound weight class. Yarde's lead on the scoreboard was incorrect. My scorecard shows that I kindly gave Yarde two strokes.

A title unification super fight against Dmitry Bivol is the fight that the fans want to see. No, it appears that battle will be postponed until next year. Both a rematch with Canelo Alvarez in September and a fight with Joshua Buatsi in the early spring at 168 pounds have been bandied about as possible next fights for Bivol.

For the WBA champion, "Bivol" is a good fit, according to Beterbiev. Let's do it if we can get it together.

Top Rank's vice president, Carl Moretti, responded to a question about the company's future plans by saying, "Bivol, Bivol, and Bivol again."

As far as fights go, that's up there with the big boys. I get that mandatory defenses arise, but when a full unification between two fighters of that caliber presents itself, you have to take it.

We have a great deal of familiarity with Bivol and his group, and we intend to contact them in an effort to schedule the next available date for this fight.

No serious discussions have taken place just yet because we needed to finish this battle first. Unless he has made a promise to Canelo, I see no reason for him to hesitate.

The only way to unify the light-heavyweight title is to fight Artur, and I think that's what we have going for us. But Bivol is a real fighter, and he has already defeated Canelo.

Beterbiev must defend his WBC title against Callum Smith if any of those bouts go ahead.

Fight fans would rather see Bivol and Beterbiev go for the gold than any of the other potential matchups. If a unification bout doesn't take place until next year, Beterbiev will be 39 years old. How long Beterbiev can maintain his current level of performance is anyone's guess.
