On March 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Premier Boxing Champions will host a high-stakes, 12-round showdown between undefeated former two-time WBC Super Middleweight Champion David "El Bandera Roja" Benavidez and undefeated former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant to settle their long-simmering feud live on SHOWTIME PPV.

Both Benavdez and Plant are confident and hungry to become the next king of the super middleweight division, so they've decided to take their verbal battle into the ring and settle it once and for all. Both fighters have previously held the 168-pound title, and they will be competing for Benavdez's interim WBC Super Middleweight belt.
The live event is being promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, and tickets go on sale this Friday, January 27 at 10 a.m. PT, and can be purchased HERE on AXS.com.

It features two athletes at the top of their games, each with unique strengths and fighting styles that they take great pride in. It's hard to predict who will win, but it's a fascinating matchup nonetheless. When you factor in their genuine and mutual distaste for one another, you have a potentially explosive, 50/50 matchup on your hands. SHOWTIME is thrilled to bring you this event, which will serve as the curtain-raiser for our 2023 programming slate and mark the network's delivery of yet another compelling and significant main event.

Defeating Ronald Gavril via split decision for the vacant WBC title on SHOWTIME in 2017, Benavdez (26-0, 23 KOs) became the youngest-ever 168-pound world champion at just 20 years old. Benavdez, originally from Phoenix but now residing and training in the Seattle area, has established himself as a top contender in the super middleweight class with his devastating knockout punches and growing ring smarts.

Under the guidance of his father and trainer, Jose, Sr., and his brother, the veteran contender Jose Jr., Benavdez went from weighing 250 pounds to a boxing prodigy at the age of 15. He is most well-known for holding his own in sparring against middleweight champions Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin. Before facing Plant, Benavdez had won his previous six fights by knockout, most recently stopping former champion David Lemieux in the third round of their fight in May.

With his superior boxing skills, Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) has risen to the level of world champion, and his knockout of Anthony Dirrell in his most recent fight was named Knockout of the Year by CBS Sports and BoxingScene for 2022. When Plant first stepped into the ring in October under the tutelage of new trainer Stephen Edwards, he knocked out Dirrell, ending their bitter rivalry and producing one of the most memorable finishes of 2022.

A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Plant (now 30) now resides in Las Vegas, where he recently won the IBF title with a unanimous decision victory over Jose Uzcategui. Plant knocked out Uzcategui twice in rounds two and four to win the title. He successfully defended his belt three times, doing so with wins over Mike Lee and Vincent Feigenbutz by technical knockout and a unanimous decision over former champion Caleb Truax. After defeating Dirrell to set up this highly anticipated clash with Benavidez, he lost the title in an undisputed championship match against Canelo Alvarez in November 2021.
