Mercedes-Benz Atego 2 - How to remove / install the dashboard | W970, W972, W974, W975, W976

The heater on an Atego 2 is defective.
This may be due to a defect in the heater housing.
The dashboard has to be removed to access the heater housing.
Important: First disconnect the battery.
Remove the dashboard on the passenger side.
Remove the cover in the footwell.
Open the four locks.
Follow the same procedure on the upper footwell cover.
Remove the footwell cover on the driver side.
Remove the three screws located to the left of the steering column.
Follow the same procedure for the cover to the right of the steering column.
Remove the two screws on the Onboard Diagnosis socket.
Remove the socket using an assembly wedge.
Detach the connector.
Remove the two screws on the side cover on the driver side.
Remove the cover.
Remove the stowage compartment in the centre.
To do so, remove one screw on the left and right respectively.
Remove the cover clipped in above the instrument cluster.
Remove the three screws which are then exposed.
Move the steering column to the rear.
Detach the panel of the instrument cluster.
Remove the six screws attaching the instrument cluster to the bracket at the top.
Also remove the two lower screws.
Take out the bracket and Instrument.
Disconnect the cable ties and electrical connectors at the rear of the instrument cluster.
Remove the driving lights switch module, which is clipped in.
Important: Detach the connector.
Lever out the switch unit using an assembly wedge.
Remove the two screws attaching the heater operating unit to the trim.
Disconnect all cable ties and connectors.
Unhook the four Bowden cables on the heater operating unit.
Fold back the fasteners of the Bowden cables.
The ends of the Bowden cables have different diameters.
This prevents any mixups when reinstalling.
Unclip the steering boot.
Remove the two screws on the left next to the steering column.
Remove the two screws on the right next to the steering column.
Disconnect the connector and remove the cover.
Remove the six screws on the stowage box in the centre of the footwell.
First remove the two lower screws.
Remove the two screws on the left and right of the stowage box.
Remove the connectors and take out the stowage box.
Remove the cigarette lighter in the centre module.
Lever out the module with an assembly wedge.
Important: Pull the connectors.
Remove the Instrument equipment carrier.
Release the three cable ties to do so.
Take out eight screws.
Take out the equipment carrier.
Remove the side cover on the passenger side.
Remove two screws to do so.
Remove the upper cover of the dashboard.
Remove two screws to do so.
Remove the cover using an assembly wedge.
Pull off the inner rubber window seal.
Remove the last ten screws fixing the dashboard in place.
Take out the dashboard.
The required repair work can now be performed.
Reinstall the dashboard.
Perform a test drive.
Check whether all electrical consumers operate properly.
Important: Check the tachograph for proper operation.
