How To Make A Heavy Duty Mallet

Wooden mallets are necessary tool for any homesteader. Being it for wood splitting, carpentry or demolition, you want to make sure you have couple of these at hand at all times. This tutorial will show you how to make one, using only limited hand tools.

Best way to make wooden mallets, is finding dead tree, with branches growing at about 90° from the main trunk. Using sturdy hardwoods like oak, ash or elm will extend the lifetime of a mallet, but almost any wood can be used. Another way to make the mallet last longer is to reinforce its edges with metal rings. Even once the mallet breaks after heavy use, you can use the rings for a new one.
