How I Lay Traditional Wooden Shingles

There are different types of shingles, and even more ways to lay them on the roof. The shingles I show here were commonly used in Central and Eastern Europe for hundreds of years, and were one of the most common roofings until the beginning of 20th century, both in towns and in the country.

I use very simple technique to lay them, more complicated techniques involve different kinds of layering the shingles into multiple overarching layers, improving the water resistance and lifetime. Shingle roof may lsts 40 years+, with proper maintenance.
