These are some of the tips and tricks I've learned throughout the years that have really helped keep gardens looking good. I'ts not always a fix-all, but definitely helps!
1. Harvest Ripe Fruit
This helps alleviate the tree by saving energy. Instead of the tree sending nutrients and resources to the fruit, it can redirect the energy to survival.
2. Deep watering the night before a heatwave can be incredible beneficial for the plants. This keep moisture content in the soil high so plants can draw from it throughout the hot day. You dont want to allow plants to get to their wilting point. This is when damage can happen!
3. Adjusting the watering time and frequency is another crucial elements. Watering early in the morning before the sun comes up helps to reduce water waste from evaporation.
4. MULCH! Using mulch as a top-dressing has so many great benefits. Not only does it help retain ground moisture, but it also acts as a weed abatement and adds nutirents back into the soil as it decomposes. And it looks GREAT!
5. Cover heat-sensative plants! Many times, plants can suffer from sun scorch in a heatwave. Covering them can help them to maintain moisture and prevent burn.
6..as an added bonus, I like to keep my plants dead-headed. This allows the plant to focus on it's health by diverting energy from old bloom stems back to the core of the plant.
Happy plantain!
