Florel by Monterey is a great growth inhibitor that prevents olive production on the tree. Its a great way to keep your olive tree from fruiting if purchasing a fruitless olive tree is not an option.


The Swan Hill Olive is touted as a true fruitless Olive...maybe only bearing tiny immature fruit every so often. Swan Hill Olive trees are very desirable as they have all the fantastic attributes of olive trees, but just without the fruit drop which can cause maintenance issues like stained concrete.

Now besides the Swan Hill, a great semi-fruitless option would be the Wilson Olive (Olea europaea 'Wilsonii'). These trees are more readily available and generally are a little less expensive. They come in beautiful multi trunk form as well as single trunk (standard) form. And although they are not a true fruitless olive tree, they dont produce nearly as much olives as a full fruiting variety, making the Wilson Olive a great choice for the landscape.
