"20/20" - 'Unsolved Rapes' (Jan 25, 2002)

ABC News contributed $8,750 (which was half of the cost) to test 50 cold case DNA rape kits being stored by Baltimore, Maryland's Police Dept.

This "20/20" segment reports on some of the results. Brian Ross is the the reporter. Barbara Walters and John Miller are the anchors.

We also hear from Howard Safer, former NYPD Police Commissioner; Ed Norris, Baltimore Police Commissioner; Sgt. Roger Nolan, Baltimore Police Dept. and John Hardin, Charlene Hardin's father.

I had uploaded some clippings regarding the cases to the As Close to Crime Facebook page. I thought they were worth a look - it you had the time and inclination.
Unfortunately, Facebook found that by providing newspaper clippings and a video clip that was aired on national television, I was violating their policy on hate speech so I deleted the post. Oh well.

Instead, here are some updates on the crimes covered in the 20/20 segment:

- Lashange LeGrand aka Ralph Hankerson, the man responsible for the Rockefeller Center rape, plead guilty and was sentenced to 17 years. He's back on the streets and is a registered sex offender.

- Hubert Taylor, Jr. was convicted of first degree rape on July 19, 2002 and released on July 19, 2002. He is a registered sex offender.

- Anthony Mitchell, who raped and killed Charlene Hardin in 1989, is still incarcerated.
