Suleiman Shah (in Ottoman Turkish: Suleiman Shah – Suleiman Shah bin Qaya Alp) (Birth: 1178 AD, Died: 1236 AD) was the son of Qaltamish and the father of Ertugrul. The grandfather of Osman Khan Ghazi, the first ruler of the Ottoman Empire, belonged to the Oghuz Turks. Sulaiman Shah had another son named Sarobat who was the father of Behoja. His mausoleum is in or near Citadel Jabar. Under Article 9 of the Treaty of Ankara (1921), concluded between Turkey and France, the mausoleum shall remain with Turkey.

At the beginning of the 13th century AD, Shahan Khwarazm's power was at its peak. They had captured many conquests of the Seljuks in Iran, Khorasan, Syria and Iraq. Genghis Khan was ready to fulfill his plans when the storm destroyed the Khwarizm Shahi Empire. After the destruction of this empire, the Turkic tribes fled to the south, some of them reached Iran and Syria and gained power there which is called Turkmani. Some came from the Seljuks in Asia Minor. In the same Turkish tribes, there was also the tribe of the ancestors of the Ottoman Turks who left their homeland and died, which was a part of the Oghuz tribe. The name of the chief of this tribe was Sulaiman Shah. According to a tradition, he settled in the city of Mahan in Khorasan, but due to the invasion of the Mongols, he left here and migrated to the west.

Arrival in Anatolia
Suleiman Shah migrated to Iran in the thirteenth century AD and from there he left with his tribe towards Anatolia where the Seljuk Empire was established at that time. Sulaiman Shah was desirous of seeking refuge in a country hostile to the Mongols, as he thought it most appropriate for his tribe to seek refuge here. Suleiman Shah arrived in the eastern Anatolian city of Akhlat. He and his clan were famous for their high qualities. He had good relations with the rulers of Akhlat, but when there was a threat from the Mongols, they also left the area and moved on. During their stay in Akhalat, Sulaiman Shah and his clansmen made a lot of name, but being the supporter and helper of Khwarizm Shah, they were in danger from the Mongols. Therefore, he had to leave the conflict with his clansmen in 1221 AD.

Achievements
During the time when Suleiman Shah and his men were living in the Anatolian city of Akhlat, they did some notable works.

The Christian terrorist groups of the north used to come and loot in the area of Akhalat. Sulaiman's companions destroyed them.
He established peace and order in the chaos.
The Byzantine Empire of the North, centered at Tarbuz, also collided and repulsed them.
According to some historians, during this time he also helped the Sultan of Saljuti.
Death
After the conflict, Suleiman migrated with his men to the famous Syrian city of Aleppo.

Stayed here and there for a while, but the migration was still going on when Sulaiman Shah drowned in the river and died. It is said that it was the Euphrates River. Some say that he drowned while bathing in the river while some historians say that he drowned while crossing the river during the journey. His body was buried there. His mausoleum is called Turk Mazari which means Turk's mausoleum. Many Turks visit his shrine.

Geographically, the Turkish mausoleum was located in Taksham until 2015, when the Treaty of Lausanne allowed Turkey to plant a flag and post honor guards at his mausoleum. Due to the civil war in Syria and the fighters of the Islamic State, the shrine has now been moved inside Turkey, as there was a threat that it would be attacked by the Islamic State, which would force Turkey to Take military action. This step was taken to avoid this. This shrine was earlier moved from one place to another in the 1970s.
