Snow Gum - Trees are sanctuaries, Hieronymus B(ock), old endearing snow gum tree in Australia

In 1965, I was given the task researching and developing programs to re-establish Eucalypt forests in Victoria. I was attracted to Hieronymus B. It seemed to me that this tree has been here forever, may even be immortal and have the answers to longevity and healthy growth. I revisited the tree a number of times and its appearance did not change appreciably over 50 years. Why does this tree grow so well and for so long in this harsh environment on the fringe of the tree line at 1825m, latitude 36.9 degrees. The answers are given in this video.
The Patriarch in this story is a snow gum, about 18m tall; the lignotuber has a circumference of 14m, a diameter of 4.5m, with 8 stems protruding from it, two of which have a diameter exceeding 60cm and with one of the stems extending almost horizontally 14m from the base.
I estimate it to be more than 1000 years old, born in the time emperor “Karl the Great” made his epic pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 778 AD.
The age of the tree is not critical to my discussion about how trees can have a long and healthy life.
The lesson to be learned is that we need to listen to what the trees needs are and work with nature for forestry to succeed.
