I Try Historical Body Hair Removal Techniques + Have Regrets
Today I am trying historical body hair removal techniques from the last 1000 years and rating those techniques so that you lovely history buffs and vintage beauty enthusiasts have the information you need to depilate historically! This is really a public service, you know. I do these things for you.
Obviously, no matter if your vintage grooming routines are based in the classical era, the victorian age, or the 1980s, there is a method for you. I'm going to try out the Pumice Stone depilation method, two different kinds of waxing (sugar and resin), a hair removal cream (I don't say the brand, but Veet and Nair are two common brands today), tweezing, using a safety razor, and the 1980s Epilady tweezing epilator.
Hair removal is a highly personal choice, and no matter where from history you derive your historical hair removal inspiration, it is always up to you to decide if, when, and how to remove your hair.
00:00 Intro
2:11 Safety Razor
3:57 Chemical Depilatory
6:02 Sugar Wax
7:49 Resin Wax
11:53 Tweezing
12:57 Pumice Stone
13:47 Epilady
I don't go too deep in detail as to the history of these methods, but historical hair removal methods are a fascinating topic! For an actual academic approach to vintage hair removal methods and our perception of body hair throughout history, check out Rebecca Herzig's book "Plucked".
