(EP69) Crossing State Lines During COVID: TO BOSTON! Part 1
#davycrockettbirthplace #roadtripduringcovid #
After waking up on Synthia's parents' property in Hiawassee, Georgia, Synthia needs some summer clothes, and since Georgia is opening up again, Norelle decides to join her for a COVID-safe shopping trip.
Time to head north!
We make our way through North Carolina and back into Tennessee to try to camp at Persimmon Ridge (https://www.tnvacation.com/local/jonesborough-persimmon-ridge-campground-closed-renovations), which may have some dispersed camping available even though the campground itself is closed for renovations.
Our gas situation gets a little bit tight, but we make it just in time to fill up.
When Persimmon Ridge Campground doesn't pan out, we decide to try camping at the Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park (https://tnstateparks.com/parks/david-crockett-birthplace). Despite there being guest caps due to COVID, we're allowed to stay for just one night.
It's nice to relax beside the campfire and listen to some podcasts and just chill for the night instead of having to stealth camp.
The next morning, Norelle gets a nice hot shower and we eat some breakfast before checking out the rest of the historic site and then head north.
We skim through the western part of Virginia and try to find a place to camp in Kentucky, but we're not finding any luck because of coronavirus closures. So, we decide to try West Virginia.
Our planned destination is Chief Logan State Park (https://wvstateparks.com/park/chief-logan-state-park/). Although the campground is closed, the park itself is somewhat open and we find a spot to stealth for the night. The weather is pretty crazy, with thunder, lightning and heavy rains.
The next morning, we listen to some podcasts about the Hatfields and the McCoys, since we're driving through their neck of the woods.
In reflection, West Virginia isn't behaving quite so crazy regarding COVID-19, and although they're not talking about it like the rest of the states, everyone is still following the precautions of wearing masks and social distancing.
As we enter Maryland, things are getting more serious with regard to the virus, as posted signs mandate quarantines for NY, NJ and CT visitors. Luckily, we're not coming from the north!
Our plans are changing as we go, so instead of heading to Niagara Falls, we re-route and decide to make a stop in Scranton, PA for tonight.
Then, onto Boston!
