Bracing (AFO) considerations for spasticity versus foot drop

An ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is a brace used to keep the foot up when walking. Typically, this type of brace is recommended for foot drop (or drop foot) and/or spasticity. However, these are just symptoms of some other medical condition including (but not limited to) multiple sclerosis (MS), Guillain barre syndrome (GBS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and/or spinal cord injury (SCI). Depending on the medical diagnosis, there are some factors that should be considered before deciding whether or not an AFO is right for you. In this video you will learn why an AFO might be a valuable “tool” in rehab, special considerations given your diagnosis and/or personal values/beliefs.
