'Political apathy' typifies the Australian response to Chinese espionage activities
Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says political apathy has characterised the response of government leaders to incidents linked to subversive Chinese activity.
He said the police raid on the home and office of Labor MP Shaoquett Moselmane as part of an espionage investigation was “just the latest example” in a long line of events connected to communist Chinese intervention in Australian affairs.
Sky News host Peta Credlin said it has now been revealed the staffer under investigation, John Zhang, allegedly used a private social media chat group to advance the interests and policy goals of the Chinese government.
“We’ve seen the Sam Dastyari affair, we’ve seen Aldi bags of cash and any number of allegations,” Mr Bernardi told Sky News
“Politicians have been asleep on the watch”.
