Public see youth unemployment as 'more pressing' than university free speech debate
Shadow Education Minister Tanya Plibersek says while it is important the government addresses isolated instances where free speech has been compromised on university campuses, many would see youth unemployment as a more pressing issue.
“Parents aren’t generally stopping me in the street talking to me about what Elaine Pearson’s got on Twitter, what they are saying is 100,000 young people joined the unemployment queue between April and May this year," she told Sky News host Alan Jones.
Ms Plibersek highlighted Morrison government policies which she said made it more difficult and more expensive for domestic students to attend university.
As unemployment rises, “we can’t afford to leave kids on the dole queue".
