Andrews is ‘off the leash’ amid ‘preposterous’ proposed Omnibus bill

Sky News contributor Catherine McGregor says the Andrews government’s draft legislation for the COVID-19 Omnibus bill is “preposterous”.

The comments come concerning a COVID-19 Omnibus Emergency Measures and Other Acts Amendment Bill which was rushed through Victoria’s legislative assembly by the state government last week.

The bill – which will last until April 2021 – gives officers the power to detain people whom they perceive to be a high risk person (either with COVID-19 or a close contact) and who refuses to comply with health directives.

“Where is this enormous human rights apparatus that gears up out of Victoria,” Ms McGregor told Sky News host Alan Jones.

“Absolutely preposterous draft legislation.

“Andrews is off the leash.”
