Kanawauke Lake, Harriman State Park - New York - the second - largest park in the Parks system boasts 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, 3 beautiful beaches, camping areas, and scenic views. Lake Kanawauke in Harriman State Park is located in the Hudson Valley region of New York and has some of the best fall colors. Its been reported to boast some of the region's best fall colors. Lake Kanawauke is a primarily man - made lake in Harriman State Park. The name is Onondaga in origin and means, " place of much water," Bella my superhero dog and I know this from experience as we hike around the lake almost daily for exercise and it is one of Bella's favorite spot since I introduced her to this part of the park when she was just a year old and ever since she loves going there just to walk / hike around the lake. In the fall and during the first heavy N.Y. snowfall it is probably one of the most picturesque scenery places you'll ever see; especially if you hike around the lake like Bella and I do daily. Its breath - taking so I urge you to visit this location if you can. You will not be disappointed if you do! Its a fairy tale come true in the fall and in the winter months, especially when the ice is froze over, its a winter wonder land. The lichen trail is just under a half mile long and it is very scenic and captures your heart so do try to hike this trail when you have time to do so. It was build in 1933 by Frank Place of the Tramp and Trail club as a short cut from the Arden - Surebridge trail to the Ramapo - Dunderberg trail so try to check it out if you are in the ares... Until the next time, over and out! ST Tarzan BuckJones
