Never Buy Bread Again - Best Whole Wheat Bread Ever - Quick, Easy And Healthy Bread

As a little kid I would spend a week or two with my grandparents each summer on the farm. One of the things grandma did to keep me entertained was make bread. This is clearly where I learned to make bread. Mostly it was whole wheat or white bread but occasionally she would make rye too. She would make like 5 large loafs and if there was extra and there always was when I was around, she would make a tiny loaf just for me. By mid afternoon the bread would be cool and as an afternoon snack we would split the little loaf. Sometime I would run up to the barn with small portion of uneaten loaf and feed it to my favorite cats. And I had many favorite cats. This is one of grandma recipes and the bread brings back such good memories of grandma and me hanging out in the kitchen making bread. You should try it too, you will never buy bread again.

Whole Wheat Bread

Mix 1 packet of dry yeast with 1/4 cup warm water and set aside.

Mix 1 2/3 cup warm water with 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons salt and 3 tablespoons butter.

In a large bowl combine 2 cups whole wheat flour and 1 cup white flour and add in the water and yeast. Mix and gradually add in 2 more cups of white flour. Knead for 7 to 8 minutes. Then let rest for 1 or 1 1/2 hours or until double in size. Knock down. Form into 2 equal balls and let rest for 10 minutes. Form loafs and place in buttered loaf pans. Let rest again until double in size, approximately 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 40 minutes. Let cool before serving.
